Classic and cult movie fans, get ready

Time Warp Drive-In 2016 is here!

Curated by Memphis moviemaker Mike McCarthy and Black Lodge Video founder Matt Martin, this third annual revival of dusk-to-dawn throwback cinema at the Summer Quartet Drive-In at 5310 Summer will be heavy on music, comic books, martiall arts and auteurs. Once again, admission is $10 per person, with kids under 10 admitted free. Movies (as always at the drive-in) start at sunset.

A difference is that this year's program carries a particular resonance: This year marks the golden anniversary of the Summer Drive-In, which opened on Sept. 1, 1966, with two screens and such films as "The Glass Bottom Boat" and "How To Stuff a Wild Bikini." In recognition of this birthday, the Time Warp theme this year is "Fifty Years of Summer."

The Time Warp schedule is subject to change (occasionally, certain old movies are pulled from distribution for various legal or promotional reasons), but is pretty certain. Here it is:

"Dark Urban Worlds: The Films of Martin Scorsese," Saturday, March 19 - "Goodfellas" (1990), "The Departed" (2006), "Taxi Driver" (1976), "After Hours" (1985).

"Sing-Along Sinema! A Night of Musical Madness," Friday, April 29 - "The Blues Brothers" (1980), "Xanada" (1980), "Cry-Baby" (1990), "Cannibal! The Musical" (1993

"Comic Book Hardcore!," Friday, May 13 - "Sin City" (2005), "The Crow" (1994), "Blade" (1998), "Tank Girl" (1995).

"Return of the Burn! A Smoke-Filled Night of Hopped-Up Heroes," Saturday, July 16 - "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (1998), "Cheech and Chong's Next Movie" (1980), "Half Baked" (1998), "I Drink Your Blood" (1970).

Martial Arts Mayhem! (Everybody Was Kung Fu Warping)," Saturday, Aug. 20 - "Enter the Dragon" (1973), "Kung Fu Hustle" (2004), "Iron Monkey" (1993), "Black Belt Jones" (1974).

"Paranoid Visions: The Films of John Carpenter," Friday, Sept. 16 - "They Live" (1988), "In the Mouth of Madness" (1994), "The Thing" (1982), "Prince of Darkness" (1987).

"Bride of Shocktober! - A Comedy of Horrors," Friday, Oct. 7 - "Young Frankenstein" (1974), "Shaun of the Dead" (2004), "The Frighteners" (1996), "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" (1988).

Time Warp organizers say more programs may be added to the schedule, to better celebrate the drive-in's 50th anniversary.
